Xbox set to transform TV by joining forces with Industry Leaders
In a recent announcement, Microsoft stated that it will bring out a range of services on Xbox LIVE, which will be designed to entertain users. With this, the game console will have more options for entertainment than it does now ushering in an era “where your entertainment becomes instantly searchable, easily discoverable and enjoyable in extraordinary new ways from a single device — Xbox 360.” As most Xbox 360 users would know, the game console already provides access to other services. Nevertheless, the new services that it is set to offer are some of the first:
“Today’s announcement is a major step toward realizing our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy,” said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “Combining the world’s leading TV and entertainment providers with the power of Kinect for Xbox 360* and the intelligence of Bing voice search will make TV and entertainment more personal, social and effortless.”
LOVEFiLM and BBC will be offered to users in the UK, while those in the US will have access to HBO GO, Verizon FiOS and Xfinity On Demand from Comcast. In addition to these, users will be provided with a few more content options. Those in the US will have access to on-demand and live sports options through ESPN and UFC. Canada will be provided with these services through UFC and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment or Real Sports, while in Spain, it will be via Go1TV.
Thousands of video highlights and live events will be showcased by ESPN. The service will come with enhanced features that enable personalization and viewing on split-screen. This will also have a content guide with an updated interface. The content option from UFC also provides a few user-friendly features. This includes a provision that allows users to view pre-event videos live and an on-demand video catalogue. These are in addition to an efficient Interactive Fight Card and high definition viewing options for pay-per-view events.
With Xbox Live, users will have access to music, news and videos through the internet. Some of the options which allow you to use the content are iHeartRadio, AlloCine, MSN (along with MSNBC.com) and Daily Motion. A few other options are YouTube, VEVO, The Today Show and TMZ. In the next few months, Xbox LIVE will have about 50 partners located in over 20 nations. Hulu Plus, AT&T and Netflix are some of its current partners.
Features Accompanying Xbox Live
You can look through all the new features that accompany the service, through Kinect. With the accessory, you will not require a remote for this function. For those who want another option, the Xbox will come with Bing, which will provide voice search option. Microsoft will also incorporate social features to make it easy for users to make recommendations to others via the Xbox. The features will also enable you to share the games you play and the movies you view with the LIVE community through Xbox. It also allows you to invite members from the community to join you. Microsoft will also integrate features that will let you access Facebook and post on your wall directly from Xbox Live.
According to Microsoft’s president of Interactive Entertainment Business, the new services are a part of the company’s vision to provide users with every entertainment option possible, to allow them to share content with others, in an easy way. With services like voice search from Bing and Kinect, entertainment and TV viewing options are becoming easy to use, social and personal.
