Movie Streaming Bliss for Mac OS X
Movies are certainly one of the most popular forms of entertainment these days. With the evolution of technology, the movie viewing experience has shifted from movie theatres to your living room. Today, there are Home Theater PCs that provide high-resolution displays, gigabytes of storage, and include programs like My Movies for OS X with great features for streaming content. Combine today’s Surround Sound Home Theater systems giving you the best sound possible with movies encoded in the best digital format to make full use of its capabilities, why wouldn’t you want to watch a movie in the comfort of your home?
Maintaining a large collection of movies can become a daunting task, especially when your collection is digitized. My Movies is the perfect application for anyone who is looking to maintain a large collection of movies without having to deal with a lot of storage or management hassles. My Movies for Windows Media Center has been a long time favorite for Windows Home Server / Windows Media Center 7 users and is finally finding a home for Mac users and is currently in its pre-release phase for the Mac OS.
Here is a look at the features offered by the Mac version:
My Movies for Mac OS X, which will be compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 or higher, is a great way to catalog your streaming movie collection. My Movies is one of the most renowned data service sites for media. It has meta data for about half a million DVDs, HD-DVDs, and Blu-ray movies from across the globe.
Using My Movies is very simple as well. You can either use your existing My Movies account, or make a new one in order to use the software. One of the best features of this software is the automatic syncing between your online account and your computer using the My Movies WebService. For example if you login through an existing account using My Movies on Mac OS X, your account collection is synchronized with the My Movies installed on your Mac.
The synchronization feature is very useful as the online server can act as a backup for your data. In case of a system crash, all you have to do is re-install the app and sync the data again.
Pre-Release and Licensing
As mentioned, My Movies is in its pre-release stage right now, which means that you can get the software for free for a month. It is expected that during this period, users will report bugs and functionality issues. This will help in making the final product a lot more stable and user friendly. After its full release, you can get the My Movies application from the Mac OS X App Store, where it will be available in two versions called “Free” and “Pro”. In the free version, you will be able to store data only for 50 movies. There will be no restrictions in the Pro version.
My Movies for Mac OS X is a very ambitious project. Once it is released, it plans to grow further. Right now, it does not have the capability to provide data for TV series (as My Movies 4 does for Windows does), but it is expected that this functionality will also be added soon.
