LaCie’s 5big Backup Server ships for big bucks running Windows Home Server

LaCie 5big released

After first being announced at this years Consumer Electronics Show (CES) back in January, LaCie officially released its 5big Backup Server yesterday.  The server, designed primarily for the small business and perhaps the well-to-do home owner, is based on Microsoft’s Windows Home Server Operating System.

Briefly, the 5big Backup Server comes in two flavors: 5TB (5 x 1TB Drives) and a 10TB (5 x 2TB Drives) and both come with 5 internal hard drive bays.  There are also a couple of features unique to LaCie that have been added on top of the Windows Home Server software:

  • Mac Feature – This feature gives you the ability to backup up to 25 Mac computers / laptops.
  • Media Streaming – Twonky Media Server has provided it’s UPNC/UPnP/DNLA support.
